These 15 Honolulu Eateries Have Special Dog Menus

I adopted my dog Kea from Hawai‘i Island Humane Society last September. As it turns out, she’s like me—an insatiable foodie who loves trying new things. So we made it our mission to sniff out our favorite local spots with doggie menus, where four-legged customers can indulge in more than water and puppacinos.

This list is for all you pawrents who want to spoil your pups as they rightly deserve.

Aloha Beer Co.

You can come to Aloha Beer’s Kaka‘ako brewpub for the beer, but your dog will stay for the Bibim-Pup ($7). This paw-some bowl features chopped chicken breast, romaine, carrots, cucumber, bacon bits and an egg yolk on top. Kea and her friend Luna wolfed down their Bibim-Pups in a split second. Love the cute Aloha Beer dog dish it comes in? Keep it for $3!

Our dogs deserve a fancy meal every once in a while. While you’re treating yourself to MW Restaurant, why not order takeout for your pooch from Echigo’s Four-Legged Menu at Artizen downstairs? Echigo is the lovable Chihuahua-Pomeranian of MW owners Michelle Karr-Ueoka and Wade Ueoka. Echigo’s Dinner of the Week comes frozen ($8.50 for 32 ounces) and features farm-to-doggie-bowl ingredients like Mountain View Farms pork or J. Ludovico Farm chicken, O.K. Farms egg, MA‘O Farms carrot and sweet potato, and Ho Farms kale and broccoli.

Asato Family Shop

Now your dogs can get in on the hype surrounding sherbet sensation Asato Family, too: Launched in late January, Asato Family Shop’s line of pet-friendly frozen treats is named after their puppy, Luka. Luka Licks features 100% whole fruits in two flavors: Puppy Punch (strawberry, mango, apple, peach) and Kea’s favorite, Peanut Butter Banana Carob ($5.99 for 8 ounces). I’m not gonna lie—I snuck a taste and I can see why pups go crazy for them.

Banán

Banán uses locally grown bananas and no added sugar to create yummy, plant-based frozen treats. It’s like guilt-free soft serve! Here, Pup Cups are free with your purchase.

Step inside Edible and you’re enveloped in the warm aroma of freshly baked cookies. Edible is known for its cookie dough scoops and house-baked specialties, but did you know they have freshly baked dog biscuits and doggy dough, too? The dog-friendly scoop of cookie dough ($5) is called the Loo-Wee (after their corgi, Louis), and the huge doggie cookie ($5) is corgi-shaped in Louis’ honor. Both are made with pumpkin, apple sauce, peanut butter, banana, flour and lots of love, of course.

Empty Elle Bagels

Empty Elle bagel shop pops up in Grace in Growlers in Kailua from Thursday to Sunday between 8 a.m. and 12 noon. Not only are the hand-rolled, honey-boiled, Montreal style human bagels amazing, there’s also a pup-friendly Everything Dog Bagel ($4.50), baked by Kailua’s DogTown Bakery.

Want to add a little pizzazz to your pet’s bowl? Try jazzing up their kibble with some Pet Furikake ($8). Though M by Jeremy Shigekane recently closed its doors, FoodStart is available at Kaka‘ako’s Try Coffee with offerings like wagyu musubis, ‘ulu cacao nib cookies, and furikake for your pets. The furikake comes in duck or fish and features wholesome additional ingredients like beets, carrot, apple and zucchini. Bonus: Cats like Pet Furikake too!

Hou Fish Market

Fresh poke, sushi … and a dog menu: Hou Fish Market soft-opened in April on Kapiolani Boulevard in the old Wave Tea location. Their dog menu features a choice of salmon, tuna or chicken with rice ($6.95), served in adorable animal shapes.

Nana Ai Katsu

My favorite katsu shop moved from ‘Ohana Hale Marketplace to Kaimukī last fall—and on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, it sells shave ice for pups. Doggie shave ice ($3) is plain shave ice topped with tempting goodies like beef jerky chips, chicken jerky chips, pork jerky chips, or dehydrated smelt, all single-ingredient treats made in Hawai‘i by Chop Chop Chews. The shave ice is refreshing and hydrating for your pups, perfect for cooling down after the beach, a hike or a walk around the neighborhood.

Pai Honolulu

Pai welcomes well-behaved dogs to dine on their patio with not only a canine food menu—they have mocktails, too! The food selection includes Breeze’s Loco Moco ($9), Blossom’s Eggs ($4), and Buttercup’s Celery Sticks ($4). The mocktail menu ($3 each) offers Cherub’s Cup (strawberry and mint), Blueberry Smash (blueberry and basil), and Orange Crush (fresh orange). Call 24 hours in advance to ensure your pup the dinner of their dreams.

PeleKai Coffee

This hidden gem of a coffee shop is in the Still & Moving Center, tucked away behind Whole Foods at Ward. In addition to typical coffee choices, they have unique offerings like rainbow superfood tea lattes, paniolo mocha, homemade milk alternatives, oolong milk tea, and taro ube latte. They also offer free puppaccinos, the favorite treat of most pooches, using whipped cream made in-house. Adventurous cats are also welcome—there’s a treat waiting for them, too.

As a side note, many dog-friendly coffee shops offer puppaccinos. Ask the barista when you place your order—many are more than happy to make your pup a cup.

Pipeline Bakeshop & Creamery

Cake bombs from Pipeline Bakery are to die for—and did you know your pup can enjoy one too? Dog Bombs are mini dog-friendly cake bombs ($2.75) made with oats, sweet potato, flour, honey, blueberries and coconut oil, topped with sweet potato and yogurt. Though not on Pipeline’s daily menu, they pop up as specials throughout the year. Keep your eyes peeled around the birthday weeks of Pipeline’s doggie mascots in January, April and October, during the holidays, and the entire month of August (aka Dogust). If you’re looking to throw a doggie celebration, you can place a special order in quantities of 36.

Pop Box Hawai‘i

Want to make your puppy melt? Buy her a popsicle from Pop Box! Pawps ($2.50) are handmade with natural ingredients like fruits, peanut butter and pumpkin. Keep an eye out for seasonal specials that are cute, colorful and doggone tasty. You’ll find Pop Box treats at The Public Pet in Kaimukī, but they hope to also roll out their food truck again soon.

Waffle & Berry moved from ‘Ohana Hale Marketplace to McCully Shopping Center’s second floor Test Kitchen. Now my favorite acai bowl shop has a brand-new menu item: Pup Parfaits, small cups of chopped fresh banana, strawberry or blueberry topped with homemade whipped cream. If your pup is not a fruit fan, you can ask for just whipped cream. So treat yourself to an acai bowl or decadent waffle, because Pup Parfaits are free with any purchase.

Waikīkī Brewing Co.

Waikīkī Brewing Co. unveiled a new brunch menu in February—and with it a new Fido Moco, a loco moco for pups, at their Kaka‘ako brewpub. The Fido Moco ($10) features a chopped local beef patty on a bed of white rice, topped with a sunny egg and low-sodium beef broth “gravy.” Even if you miss weekend brunch, you can still order doggie dishes on the Furry Friends section of the regular menu. Chicken & Rice ($7) and Burger & Rice ($7) are available every day.
